How Do You Get Those Pictures
in Print and On the Web?

The Process of Digital Photography:
My Digital Photography Workflow

I. Capture images and save in both RAW and JPEG formats
II. Copy all images from CF card to a new folder on my computer's hard drive
III. Rename all files to identify them with this event (using either Adobe Bridge or an older version of The Rename... the current version can't do it!)
IV. Use Adobe Bridge to
    A. Edit the metadata of all images
B. Rank all images as one star. (The scale ranges from 0 through 5 stars.)
C. Move all JPEG files to a separate folder
V. Produce Online Photo Gallery (continuing in Adobe Bridge and working with the JPEG folder)
A. Review all images and rank all as either zero stars or two or greater stars. (This way, I know which images have not yet been reviewed yet -- the 1 star images.)
B. Filter: display all two star or better images. (There is no need to process the bad pictures.)
C. Move all of the good pictures to a new folder.
VI. Use Adobe Photoshop to individually enhance each image.
  A. Use PTLens to correct lens defects
B. Correct: spots and flaws, shadows and highlights, brightness and contrast, colors.
C. Use SkinTune to make final color corrections for skin color.
VII. Review all images from Bridge. Revisit any that need further corrections.
VIII. Return to Photoshop
  A. Make alternate versions of images as needed: black and white, sepia, composites, and other special effects.
  B. Crop and make web-sized versions of all good images.
  C. Add "Drew Faber Photography" watermark onto each web-sized image.
IX. Use Picasa to create online photo gallery
X. Use WS_FTP Pro to upload gallery to http://drewfaber.com/dfp-pages/events.htm or a not-so-public location.

XI. Making Prints of Selected Images
  A. Open desired RAW image file in DxO Optics Pro
  B. Make adjustments as needed.
  C. Create a TIFF high-resolution version
  D. Open the image in Adobe Photoshop
  E. Adjust contrast, color, shadow, highlight
  F. Use SkinTune to make final color adjustments
  G. Use either ( Portrait Professional ) or ( Kodak Professional GEM Plug-In with the Kodak Air Dimensional Action ) to air-brush the skin tones as needed
  H. Save
  I. Crop and make a JPEG copy at 300 dpi based on the customer's desired print size.
  J. Upload the high-resolution JPEG to Fromex or Mpix for printing on professional photographic paper.
XII. Archive
  A. Automated backup of all new files occurs at 1:00 am to external hard drive.
  B. Within 2 days all RAW files are backed up to DVD. Two copies are made.  One copy stays here. The other copy goes to another location. All other files are backed up to DVD within two months..
