I love my Canon EOS 5D! I bought it when they first
came out and it arrived in November of 2005. I have never regretted buying
it. It is a wonderful camera. Because the EOS
5D has been out almost 2 years now, rumors are now surfacing about a
possible EOS 5D Mark II (2). Until Canon makes an official announcement
regarding a Mark II, I will treat these rumors as noise.
But, since we all like to dream, here is my wish
list for a possible EOS 5D Mark II: |
|
|
- Better low light capability. The EOS 5D has very
good low light capability. But, I would like to see it increased.
- Increased dynamic range
- Better auto-exposure bracketing. Currently
the 5D can only shoot 3 frames in AEB mode. I would like to see that
increased to automatically cover the entire exposure range of a scene to
make high dynamic range (HDR or HI) imaging easier. These would be my
preferred steps for taking the shots for an HDR image:
- Select HDR-AEB mode
- Select desired aperture
- Spot meter brightest part of scene
- Spot meter darkest part of scene
- Or better yet, let the camera automatically
determine the lightest and darkest parts of the scene
- Frame the image and lock down the camera on
tripod
- Release the shutter
- The camera would then lock up the mirror, wait
a couple of seconds, then shoot the series of images needed to cover the
scene in one step increments... or whatever steps Canon engineers
determines would work best
- Add anti-static coating to the sensor
- Add sensor shaking to the shut-down process to
clean the sensor
- The ISO should be displayed at all times
- I would like to be able to see the top panel info
displayed on the back of the camera when making an adjustment. When the
camera is on a tripod, it is tough to see the top panel sometimes.
- Depth of field mode: bring back the depth of
field mode and this time allow it to use the flash!
- Lower price than the current price for a 5D
- Live preview with a pivot tilt swivel monitor
- Flash exposure lock should be easier and smarter

I would like to see the following in a Mark II:
(1) Lower ISO... at least 50 and if the engineering crew at Canon could pull
it off... ISO 25!!!! I've taken some incredible photos using Kodak's Royal
Gold ASA 25. I don't understand why people are asking for higher ISO rating
when all you get is grain.
(2) 16 Megapixel, full-frame CMOS sensor, with NO MORE than a 7.2 micron
sized pixel. I don't like the 8.2 micron on the current 5D. Too big!!!
(3) Include SDHC Memory card slot with the CF card slot
(4) Include Noise Reduction like the EOS 20D
I hope the crew at Canon reads through some of the wish lists from users and
if possible incorporate them into the next generation of cameras.
